Brain aneurysm is a cerebrovascular disease in which the weakened area of a blood vessel wall swells and expands like a balloon. If the brain aneurysm ruptures, a subarachnoid hemorrhage occurs, which is a type of brain hemorrhage with the highest mortality and disability rates among cerebral hemorrhages.

As practicing neurosurgeons, the founders of TALOS Corp. have seen firsthand the life-threatening dangers of ruptured brain aneurysms, which can be treated if detected at an early stage. Leaving the aneurysm untreated could result in a rupture, which brings consequences that are irreversible—50% of the cases are fatal and 66% of those who survive suffer some type of permanent neurological damage.

According to the Korean Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, the treatment costs for cerebrovascular diseases in South Korea has amounted to 3.52 trillion KRW (about 2.64 billion USD). Despite being a treatable disease, the lack of early detection is threatening lives in Korea and around the world. According to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation, it is believed that about 30,000 people suffer from a brain aneurysm rupture each year, which means a brain aneurysm ruptures every 18 minutes. In addition, about 500,000 people die each year worldwide due to ruptured brain aneurysms.

When detected early, most brain aneurysms are treatable, which means that early detection is crucial in preventing life-threatening consequences of an unexpected rupture. For this reason, early detection of a brain aneurysm before it ruptures is the key to treatment, but there are hurdles that make it almost impossible for anyone to know their risk level ahead of time.

In our response to removing the hurdles to the early detection of brain aneurysms, we have developed ANRISK™, an AI algorithm-based platform that evaluates the risk of developing a brain aneurysm solely based on the results of an individual's standard health checkup. Through our high-performing AI algorithm, individuals can now safely measure their risk of developing a brain aneurysm at a reasonable cost.

The analysis is based on the examinee’s health checkup results data and their risk level is calculated as a score and categorized into one of the 5 different risk level groups, ranging from the Lowest Risk group to the Highest Risk group. The analysis is safe, economical, and gives a highly personalized report in a smart and effective way.

After an examinee receives a risk analysis with ANRISK™, medical institutions can encourage those categorized in the high risk groups to receive further brain imaging scans for an accurate diagnosis of a brain aneurysm. This easy and accessible method is the most effective pathway for early detection, which is essential in treating brain aneurysms.

We believe that not only patients but hospitals should benefit as well in order to provide the most effective and innovative medical care.
