The transfer of a scene of crime into virtual reality has long been a complex task and reserved to forensic experts and trained specialists. For the first time we are introducing a fully automated Crime Scene Documentation system (CSD500) which allows non-experts to create digital twins of a crime scene in outstanding quality. Our CSD500 was developed in close cooperation with law enforcement units across the world and provides perfect support for investigators, forensic experts, prosecutors, lawyers, judges and other parties involved in investigative processes.CSD500 is a self-contained, standalone and highly mobile HDR capturing unit. It uses state-of-the art robotic technology in combination with a high-quality digital camera unit and an integrated LED panel. Capturing parameters are preset and allow even under difficult environmental conditions the creation of geometrically calibrated sphericals with a resolution of up to 512 MPx. Our capturing unit is complemented with an intuitive and highly flexible VR Software which allows to integrate digital case information into to a comprehensive, virtual duplicate of a scene of crime. Sphericals are linked together with photos, plans, point clouds, videos, audios, documents and other case related information to a virtual crime scene tour. Password protected copies and pdf or Word reports can be derived from each case file to efficiently support investigative and documentation processes.
