The development aimed to address the issues of concrete structures and pavement deterioration due to carbonate action and infiltration of chloride ions.

The goal was to develop a penetrating liquid coating agent, and the resulting product, named 'P2,' is a chemical solution primarily composed of silicate. It strengthens concrete, increases the density of voids, and provides long-term protection against the penetration of harmful agents.

Traditional coating methods merely offer temporary protection to the concrete surface. However, the developed product aims to provide a fundamental solution for concrete protection, rather than just a temporary fix for maintenance.

Developed by 4A System Co., Ltd., the concrete permanent protection agent P2 can penetrate concrete up to a depth of 10cm when applied as a diluted solution.

P2 remains within the concrete, undergoing chemical reactions with residual lime and calcium hydroxide to regenerate C-S-H (calcium silicate hydrate). This process fills and solidifies the micro-pores and capillaries in the concrete, offering permanent protection against damage caused by carbonation, salts, water, freezing/thawing, and neutralization. Additionally, it helps prevent corrosion of the reinforcing steel.

Unlike traditional water repellents and coatings that can create safety issues due to changes in friction on the road surface, especially in situations like black ice or reduced permeability leading to skidding, P2 does not form a waterproof membrane or coating layer on the surface. This characteristic ensures that friction and permeability remain constant, providing long-term safety in the construction of concrete pavement in areas such as roads, ports, airports, and other concrete structures.
